She mixes old and new. As a result, we do not always have a good overview of Máxima’s shopping policy. Fortunately, this blog changes that, because below you can see her ten newest evening dresses.
We’ll start at number ten so we’ll end up with the most recent.
Number 10: a surprising color combination from Natan
For Budget Day 2021, Máxima takes an ensemble out of her closet that had been stuck for a while due to corona. It is a top made of finely woven wool jersey and a skirt made of taffeta silk with an abstract floral print. Label: Nathan.
Number 9: a wrap scarf from Benchellal
For Budget Day 2022, Máxima orders a dress coat with a wrap-around scarf made of air-mesh/neoprene with a matching hat. The fabric is made from recycled material. The robe manteau is a design by Benchellal. This Dutch designer with Moroccan roots is making a name for himself and has recently also designed a collection for Net-a-porter. Máxima’s outfit is a wonderful support.
Number 8: velvet evening dress from Costarellos
Velvet and lace are very royal fabrics. Both materials are used – in strips – in Máxima’s burgundy evening dress from Costarellos. The design has a stand-up collar and 3/4 sleeves.
Number 7: goddess dress by Elie Saab
A supple fabric, sloping neckline and flowy drapery: this evening dress from Elie Saab can rightly be called a goddess dress. Máxima wears it during Amalia’s birthday party. A photo of this private moment appears on the 2022 Christmas card.
Number 6: diagonal stripes from Natan
For the official visit to Curacao (February 2023), Máxima purchases a striped evening dress. Natan’s design falls wide along the body, has a standing collar and voluminous drapery at the right shoulder.
Number 5: wow sleeves by Claes Iversen
For the state visit of the French president, Máxima purchases an evening dress of bright red silk from Claes Iversen. The design is off-shoulder, with a narrow belt and is notable for two huge balloon sleeves.
Number 4: a present from Pakistan
When Máxima visits Pakistan in November 2019, she is also expected at fashion label Mahpara Khan in Lahore. During a conversation about entrepreneurship and inclusive financing, the queen is presented with a cardboard box. When she opens it, it reveals a richly embroidered dress. The design is inspired by a so-called lehenga choli that is placed in the bag. The originally Indian costume consists of a richly embroidered top that ends above the navel, a long skirt and a thin stole that can cover the head and neck. Beautiful to look at, but less suitable for a Dutch queen. For her, the design was therefore designed as a dress, without a view at the waist, and with long sleeves.
Number 3: soft pink dress by Jan Taminiau
For the state visit to Belgium, Máxima orders a soft pink robe from Jan Taminiau. The design has a wide neckline, which is connected at the back with scalloped tulle. The bodice of the dress features beads and sequins, as well as embroidered applications. Just below the hip, the skirt is decorated with thousands of pieces of tulle, which are secured in the middle with a few stitches. In this way the couturier has managed to create both volume and drama.
Number 2: the gray dress by Iris van Herpen
For the opening of the exhibition ‘Iris van Herpen – Sculpting the Senses’, Máxima naturally selects something beautiful from Iris van Herpen herself. Her evening dress consists of a skin-colored underlayer + a transparent layer of tulle, on which embroidery has been applied. This stacking of materials makes it look as if the lines have been applied to her skin. Mold and fungal threads were the source of inspiration for the pleated work.
Number 1: a light blue Taminiau
At number 1 is a dress that you have probably already seen: the light blue Jan Taminiau, worn during the state banquet for the Spanish royal couple. The bodice of the dress has subtle pleats all around, creating a cloud of fabric at the skirt part. The off-shoulder sleeves sit lightly on the shoulders. This is possible because there are two shoulder straps hidden beneath the flexible fabric.
