Never a dull moment with the Windsors. Even now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are focusing on their own projects in Montecito, they continue to agitate the court. According to royalty expert and author Tom Quinn, King Charles and Prince William would have seriously considered stripping the Sussexes of their titles.
Duke and Duchess
You may have your own opinion, but the fact remains that Harry and Meghan are still known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Even now that they no longer perform duties for the court and are no longer official working royals, they retain those titles.
This was clearly visible during their recent tour of Nigeria, and the website of their Archewell Foundation also clearly states that the organization was set up by the Duke and Duchess.
Keep calm
Although this was a thorn in the side of many critics, Buckingham Palace never responded to this criticism. But that doesn’t mean the option has never been discussed behind closed palace doors, of course. For example, Tom Quinn reports to The Mirror that Harry’s closest relatives, father Charles and brother William, have seriously considered the possibility.
“They had extensive discussions about taking away Meghan and Harry’s titles, but they were terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse,” the author said.
“Giving these renegade royals something to complain about is the last thing they want to do,” Quinn continues. “William and his father know that even without their royal titles, Meghan and Harry would travel the world as if they were royals, and that most people would still welcome them.”
In other words, all the Sussexes’ royal allure goes beyond just a bunch of titles. So why would the court take the risk?
Sussexes
If Buckingham Palace still decides that it is time to strip Haz and Megs of the titles, that would be extremely unfortunate in terms of timing. Earlier this year they just launched their brand new website, called Sussex.com. Anyone who now visits Harry and Meghan’s former website – Archewell.com – will be automatically redirected to the new domain. Here too, it was immediately noticeable after the launch that the couple is consistently referred to by their official royal titles.
It would be a shame if that new platform had to be banned again soon…
