Special tiara moment for Queen Mary during Norwegian state banquet

Mary paid a sweet tribute to Queen Margrethe!

Yesterday, the second part of the European tour of the new Danish royal couple started in Norway. At the state banquet at the end of the day we of course saw a lot of glitz and glamour, but one regal lady in particular managed to steal the show with an important diadem on her head.

State visit

As usual, the visit of Danish King Frederik and Queen Mary to neighboring Norway started yesterday with an official reception. This once again took place in the port, because as we know, the Danes prefer to make their state visits on Dannebrog, their beloved ship and home away from home. No sleeping in a strange palace, just back to your royal cabin at the end of the day!

King Harald and Queen Sonja were absent from this first program item – probably due to Harald’s health – and in their place Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit did the honors.

For the occasion, the king and the crown prince wore their uniforms, decorated with all kinds of honors. Queen Mary opted for a light ensemble with a colorful Erdem skirt, a Ralph Lauren jacket, Gianvito Rossi pumps and a Max Mara bag. Mette, in turn, opted for a Fendi dress made of tweed and wool – not very airy, in this summer weather – and a set of good pumps from Aquazurra. She finished her look with a silver-blue Sarah’s Bag clutch.

State banquet

Naturally, we at the editorial office were impatiently looking forward to the state banquet that took place last night. Of course, all the invited royals showed up in full regalia. Yesterday, Queen Sonja wore her Erik Mortensen gown with a Judith Leiber clutch and the emerald Leuchtenberg tiara.

Princess Mette-Marit opted for a beautiful Temperley London skirt, which for some inexplicable reason she combined with a jacket from Gunhild. We are not averse to a nice business blazer, but we would have liked to see more glamor from the crown princess here. More like this, please! The amethyst diadem on her head still provides a nice dose of sparkle, but it is still our least favorite look of the evening.

The real star of the show was clearly Queen Mary. According to the royal fashion experts from UFO NO More, the queen showed herself in an altered version of the Birgit Hallstein gown that she also wore to the wedding of Swedish Prince Carl Philip in 2015.

The highlight of her outfit, however, was the diadem that adorned Mary’s crown. For the first time, she chose the pearl Poiré tiara – a crown that Mary’s predecessor, Queen Margrethe, has regularly used over the years. In fact, Marge loved this diadem so much that she also had herself depicted wearing this pearl jewelry in her first official portraits as queen.

We can only see the fact that Mary chooses to wear this diadem for the first time as a sweet ode to her mother-in-law. Glitter, glamour, and a sweet dose of sentiment: the Danish queen gets a plus from us!
