Joost Klein is currently back home after all the fuss surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest. After a nasty confrontation with a camera woman, he received serious repercussions from the organization. Joost was disqualified from the song festival and even the Swedish police were involved. Now that the investigation has been completed and the file has been sent to the Swedish Public Prosecution Service, more details about the incident are slowly but surely starting to emerge.
Threatening fist movement
According to the Swedish daily Aftonbladet, Joost Klein immediately apologized profusely after the incident with the woman. It was previously reported that Joost immediately admitted that he made a threatening fist movement towards the camera woman after he asked her to stop filming.
Apology from Joost Klein
According to anonymous sources who spoke to the Swedish newspaper, Joost Klein apologized several times immediately after the incident. It is currently unclear whether his apology has also been received by the camerawoman.
No physical contact, but aggressive?
Joost admitted that he made a threatening movement, but he did not touch the woman. Unfortunately, the camerawoman was injured because her camera broke and she cut herself. Although Joost made no physical contact, other anonymous sources claim that his behavior was more aggressive than claimed by AVROTROS and this may have led to the camera breaking.
Possible prosecution of Joost Klein
The Eurovision organization still stands by their decision to disqualify Joost, while the Swedish police have announced that the Public Prosecution Service will open a case against the singer. Klein’s file will be presented to the court in June.
Artist support
Joost is not alone at the moment. Several artists are speaking out against the atmosphere behind the scenes at the Eurovision Song Contest. This is how S10, who performed for the Netherlands at the song festival in 2022 with the song De Diepte, makes itself heard. In a video from RTL Boulevard, S10 shares that she found the atmosphere behind the scenes at the Eurovision Song Contest “really very intense” and that her personal boundaries were not respected there.
‘It was intense for me’
Stien de Hollander, known as S10, emphasizes that she does not want people to think that she did not like it there at all. However, a number of things have happened that S10 found unpleasant. “The Eurovision Song Contest is really very intense. People constantly want something from you. Everyone is pulling at you. That has certainly taken its toll on me. Yes, that was intense for me.”
