It has not escaped our attention that Joost Klein has been disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest (sad smileys…). This subject did not remain undiscussed in the Even Tot Hier program. Niels van der Laan and Jeroen Woe opened the satirical program with a parody of Europapa and had a very clear message for the EBU. The video is now going viral and we understand why.
Parody in Even Tot Hier
At Even Tot Hier they always know how to perfectly portray current events in a satirical way. Such a much-discussed topic as Joost’s disqualification was of course not to be missed in this program. Niels van der Laan wore the iconic blue suit with shoulder pads and Jeroen Woe wore the costume of ‘Stunt gnome’. With their song they make quite a statement during the program. They sing: “It seemed so beautiful to perform in Sweden, together with a blue bird and someone else for no reason,” the verse begins. Regular pianist Miguel Wiels is dressed as the much-discussed blue bird. The song continues: “A investigation and then Joost was screwed, the Ikea jury members had a screw loose. Expelled for this reason, sorry? Thought it couldn’t get any worse after Mia and Dion.”
Slash at the EBU
In the song they really lash out at the EBU. In the chorus they sing: ‘We are from Europe, EBU screwed Joost there. Cheer up, bye bye. We are from Europe, what a typhoid mess there. Cheer up, bye bye.’ It looks like they’re raising their middle finger. Ouch..
Viral worldwide
Viewers in the Netherlands are enjoying this new version of Europapa. The video has already been viewed more than 140,000 times on YouTube and we see many positive reactions on X. Not only are people fans in the Netherlands, the clip is also spreading like wildfire across borders. English subtitles have been added to TikTok and the video has already been viewed 1.4 million (what!) times. The only positive thing we can say about Joost Klein’s disqualification is that Joost’s popularity has grown enormously. He now has 1.5 million followers; that used to be 600,000. Europapa is in the charts, yes!
