Hip hurray: Princess Annette celebrates 52nd birthday

How is Princess Margriet’s daughter-in-law doing now?

Today is a party with the family around Prince Bernhard! Today is his wife, Princess Annette’s birthday. Time to see how the princess is doing!

Princess Annette

On April 18, 1972, little Princess Annette was born in The Hague, as the first daughter of Ulrich Sekrève and Jolanda de Haan. The princess grew up largely in Brabant, and eventually completed her Psychology studies at the University of Groningen – even in reasonable anonymity.

But in Groningen she also meets the man with whom she has been happily married for almost a quarter of a century: Prince Bernhard. The civil wedding took place on July 6, 2000…

…And two days later the church wedding takes place in the Utrecht Cathedral.

This means that Princess Annette is instantly known to the general public!

The couple has seen their family grow over the years: daughter Isabella was born in 2002, son Samuel followed in 2004 and Benjamin was born in 2008. Like their parents, they remain largely out of the spotlight.

Spotlights

We don’t see her very often in public at Dutch events, but that is logical. Prince Bernhard and Princess Annette are no longer part of the Royal House. Previously, Bernhard and Annette (just like Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène, by the way) were, but since King Willem-Alexander has been on the throne, this is no longer the case. We still see the couple regularly show up on King’s Day. Prince Bernhard also regularly shares cheerful snapshots via Instagram that also show his great love.

For example, he recently put his family in the spotlight after the Dutch 100, a sporting charity event. In addition to thanking all the volunteers, Bernhard also wrote in the series of photos: “💚 my family for their support.” Aww!

What else does the princess do in everyday life? Not much is known about that. We do know that she is committed to various charitable organizations.

For example, she is a member of the Recommendation Committee of the Art as Well Foundation / A Whole Art, and of the Belevenis Foundation, two organizations that work for people with disabilities in an artistic and creative way. Annette is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Papageno Foundation. This organization is committed to children with autism. In short: a lot of charity from the birthday princess!
