Be honest, have you ever done this?
Working from home can be very nice. You can do some laundry during your break, you can start dinner faster and it saves a lot of frustration during rush hour. But, as it turns out, it is also the perfect opportunity to sometimes get out of work with an excuse.
Excuse
April 10 is World Global Work from Home Day. NETGEAR conducted research into this hybrid way of working for the occasion. Because working from home can be a convenient solution, but it can also bring frustration. The research showed that the biggest frustration is poorly functioning internet. But the Dutch also sometimes take advantage of this by using poorly functioning WiFi as an excuse. As many as 1 in 10 Dutch people have admitted that they have sometimes avoided a meeting or assignment for work or school in this way. Men do this more often than women. Phew!
Frustrations
Besides slow WiFi, there are even more irritations on the home office. Getting distracted is number two; Before you know it you are pulling weeds in the garden, cleaning out your wardrobe or shopping online. Number three is a technical problem, such as a screen that does not work, and number four is the lack of contact with others. So you see how valuable that chat at the coffee machine with that one colleague is. In last place is noise pollution from the neighbors or outside: the boy next door who is testing his new drum set, a neighbor who is renovating or the primary school around the corner that distracts you.
Work from home like a pro
Don’t want to run the risk of losing your concentration at home? Make sure your workplace is tidy. Clean house, clear mind! Turn off all notifications on your phone and laptop when you are at work, even if it is only for a short time. In addition, close all applications on your laptop that you are not using, so that you can fully focus on what you are doing.
