From the Ridderzaal to a concert hall?
No one will have noticed the news that the implementation of Budget Day will be overhauled. The day that marks the opening of the parliamentary year attracts fewer and fewer visitors every year. And that is something that both the House of Representatives, the municipality of The Hague and the ministries would like to change. The new, modern interpretation will ensure that this special day will again become a real crowd puller.
Modernization
Our Royal Family naturally plays an important role during this traditional day. The iconic balcony scene, the reading of the Speech from the Throne by King Willem-Alexander and the driving tour will therefore remain permanent parts of the program. There are currently no fewer than twenty ideas to breathe new life into Budget Day. A small selection of the special ideas: from debate with MPs to a large concert at the Binnenhof, or an opening of both Noordeinde Palace and Kneuterdijk Palace and the Royal stables. The choice is huge.
Personal edge
We are especially enthusiastic about the plans regarding the Oranjes. This would allow the public to get closer to the Royal Tour and gain a unique insight into the life of the royal family by opening the palaces. How nice would it be to see the princesses enjoying their favorite band, or to admire the living environment of the Oranges with their own eyes? In short: a day with a personal edge, and which should provide a form of connection with the Royal House. With these kinds of great ideas, the day will take on a more open character and feel like a popular festival, the organization believes.
Gradual change
The intention is that the first changes will already have been implemented during the coming Budget Day, on Tuesday, September 17. It is not yet entirely clear which ideas will be implemented. Could we already enjoy a musical spectacle at the Ridderzaal? In any case, that seems great to us!
Unfortunately, the complete metamorphosis of this traditional day is not expected to be completed this year. The dazzling party needs more time to be fully implemented. According to an insider, it will take years before the complete modernization plan is ready. In any case, we look forward to the first developments of a new, modern Budget Day!
