Family expansion for the Bavarian royals!
In case you missed it, Princess Sophie and Prince Ludwig of Bavaria tied the knot last year. Perhaps still unknown territory, but when we talk about the fact that the princess fainted during the vows, a light usually comes on again. Anyway, we’ll leave that for 2023. This year is all about babies. Sophie is expecting her first child!
Much-discussed marriage
Okay, let’s go back in time for a moment. The couple tied the knot in 2023. And no, you don’t have to expect it to be kept intimate and small, no, it became quite a spectacle with royals from all over Europe present. And although as a bride you have probably already experienced the necessary stress, Princess Sophie took it one step further.
When the moment finally came, and the bride and groom were allowed to read their vows to each other in a romantic way, it became a bit too much for the princess and she fainted. Fortunately, Ludwig was there to catch his princess. “After a drink she was fine again and the ceremony continued,” according to the German newspaper Bild.
Pregnant
Fast forward: now that Sophie and Ludwig have enjoyed their married life for almost a year, they thought it was time for a new step. The princess is expecting her first child! The German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine shared the happy news with the outside world last Tuesday.
According to them, Sophie said during a speech about the UN Sustainable Development Goals that she herself would not be able to participate in the fundraising campaign for her husband’s ‘Löwenmarsh’ in September, because she was almost due. The spokesperson for the House of Bavaria, Carmen Schramka, also confirmed the news to the local newspaper.
Son
The House of Wittelsbach, which includes the Bavarian prince and his bride, has a very rich history. For example, the legendary Empress Sisi was a Wittelsbach by birth, and Prince Ludwig is the great-great-grandson of the last king of Bavaria.
If history had turned out differently, Ludwig would have been the future king of Bavaria. If Sophie and Ludwig are expecting a son, he will succeed his father in the line of succession, which only the male descendants of the House of Wittelsbach are entitled to. However, the future child should not expect too much from it. Ludwig is only a ‘pretender’ to the disappeared throne.
