Which school does the young Prince George choose?

Take a peek!

Can you still remember? That time when, as an eighth grader, you felt like the boss of the school – only to find yourself at the bottom of the pecking order again the following year as a little junior. What a tension that suddenly was! This moment is also rapidly approaching for the young Prince George, but at which school will he spend his teenage years? That doesn’t seem to have been decided yet!

Secondary school

Although the eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate is only ten years old, a lot of energy is already being put into choosing a secondary school for the young prince.

As you would expect from a Windsor native, the choice of school is not about which of the two local secondary schools happens to have nicer teachers. Nope: the Waleses have been spotted at three ultra-prestigious boarding schools in recent months. Glamial took a look at the three options that, according to ‘insiders’, are still in the running to train the future king of the United Kingdom.

Option 1: Eton College

The most obvious option is of course the prestigious Eton College. Both Prince William and Prince Harry spent their teenage years here, and the list of ‘Old Etonians’, as the alumni are called, is packed with big names. From authors Ian Fleming and George Orwell to actors like Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, and politicians à la David Cameron and Boris Johnson. All kinds of prominent scientists, aristocrats and other prominent figures have also received training at Eton College over the years.

Especially the fact that father Wills himself is an alumnus of the boarding school would give Eton College an advantage. However, several sources report that Kate would be less happy with Eton as an option – especially as the school is exclusively for boys.

Eton College has also regularly been the center of all kinds of controversies in recent years, including elitist and misogynistic behavior. It is therefore not surprising that Kate is not eager to send George here as the future head of a modern monarchy.

Option 2: Marlborough College

What Kate would be enthusiastic about is her own Alma Mater: Marlborough College. Just like Eton College, this boarding school costs a pretty penny and has an impressive list of alumni. In addition to Princess Catherine, Pippa Middleton and Princess Eugenie are also ‘Old Marlburians’, as are comedian Jack Whitehall, Olympic rider and ex-husband of Princess Anne, Mark Phillips, and musician Nick Drake. Not even the smallest list of names!

The school would also offer plenty of opportunities in the field of sports and culture. Since George has two parents who are passionate about sports and has been spotted cheering enthusiastically at Wimbledon several times, this could just be a good match for the young prince!

Option 3: St Edward’s School

Although the battle seemed to be between Eton and Marlborough College for a long time, a third school now appears to be in the running. For example, royalty writer Richard Eden reports from personal sources that the Waleses also took a look at Oxford’s St Edwards School – also known colloquially as ‘Teddies’. Their alumni include actresses Emilia Clarke and Florence Pugh, newsreader Jon Snow, actor Laurence Olivier, various politicians and all kinds of sporting talents.

This school would give the highest priority to the happiness of their children, including offering a subject in the field of sustainability. This is of course completely in line with grandfather Charles’ and Prince Williams’ commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. The school collaborates with the British army, air force and navy for the so-called ‘Combined Cadet Force’, where students gain practical experience. Given Williams’ own great love for the Royal Air Force, this could easily be the deciding factor in his choice of school.

Patience

Again: Prince George is only ten years old, so for the time being he is still at Lambrook School in Bracknell. Sister Charlotte and brother Louis are also students at this nationally established school.

However, the future of the young prince must already be considered. Many prestigious boarding schools require you to register from the age of ten, although you can only attend from the age of thirteen. Now we’re guessing that a last-minute exception can certainly be made for the future king of England, but oh well. We can understand that the Waleses prefer not to gamble on that.
