Brushing hair when it is wet: do or don’t?
Of course we all want the best for our hair. Maybe you really want long locks or you just want to keep your (short) haircut nice and healthy. We almost all brush our hair – if all goes well – but should we also do that with wet hair? Or would you rather not? The answer doesn’t seem to be written anywhere, until now! We have the right answer for you once and for all.
Hair types
To keep a very long story short, it ultimately depends entirely on your hair type whether you should brush wet hair or not. Angela Onuoha is a trichologist and specializes in hair diseases and abnormalities. She states that people with straight or wavy hair should brush their hair when it is dry – not when you have just gotten out of the shower. People who have a curly texture should brush their wet hair before it dries.
Elastic
When your hair is wet, your hair becomes more elastic and while that isn’t necessarily a problem for curly textured hair, it can be bad for straight and wavy hair. If the wet straight or wavy hair is elastic, the hair can break off more quickly, which becomes even worse when you brush it.
For hair with curly texture, it is good to brush it when it is wet. This is because dry curly hair is more sensitive to breakage and is therefore better brushed out when you just get out of the shower. It works the other way around for straight and curly hair!
