Sweet!
Princess Diana, better known as Lady Di, was not a fan of her own nickname. Still, she liked to come up with cute pet names for her sons. This was the nickname of the youngest member, Prince Harry.
Nickname
Charles and Diana’s youngest son was born Prince Henry Charles Albert David. The palace then announced that his family would give him the nickname ‘Harry’. Despite the many ‘official names’ Harry was given, his mother often called him by yet another name.
The Princess of Wales is said to have often called Harry ‘My little Spencer’. The pet name is a nod to Diana’s side of the family and to her own character traits. “Diana always said that Prince Harry was so naughty, just like herself,” says royalty expert Ingrid Seward in the documentary When the Spencers Met the Monarchy.”
Spencer family
The late Princess Diana had an impressive family tree: it is chock full of British noble names and connections to the royal family. For example, there was a Lady Diana Spencer before who could almost have become Princess of Wales and Queen of Great Britain, but for that we have to go far back in time.
Today, Diana’s own name still lives on in the two granddaughters of the Princess of Wales: Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Maybe Prince Harry still remembers his pet name and names little Lilibet and then almost that name!
