Adidas Sambas and New Blanche 350 are totally in trend. Now the Vans are also coming back in style, thanks to model Gigi Hadid. It is a shoe that always departs from trends, but always comes back, and we understand why.
‘New’ trend
The search for the shoe of the season is endless, and everyone’s style is different. For example, you can choose the Adidas Sambas, or the New Balance 350. These sneakers are comfortable and stylish, but there is a new shoe that is returning to our lives: the Vans loafers. We already see the shoe on the streets of London and Paris, and that is not surprising: they are very comfortable and you do not have to break them in. Celebrities also wear the shoes, mainly with the checkerboard pattern. People like Olivia Rodrigo, Emily Ratajkowski, Jennifer Lawrence and now also Gigi Hadid have been spotted with the loafers. Gigi was the last to be spotted with the checkerboard loafers, combined with a beaded midi dress from Bode, a Rebalance cap, a Miu Miu Arcadie bag and a deliciously cooling ice cream.
Restyle Vans
The shoes symbolize nostalgia, youth and subculture. It is not surprising that they are making a comeback in fashion culture, if we consider that we have been re-emerging trends from the past decades. In the past, mainly skaters, SoundCloud rappers, Tumblr girls and indie and pop rock people wore the shoes, but around 2014 Vans became part of mainstream culture in the Netherlands. During this period, the shoes were indispensable under any outfit, and everyone had to have them. This lasted for about two years, before the shoes were replaced by new sneakers. But now, about ten years later, we see them reappear.
Old but gold
The fact that we have seen more and more ‘worn out’ sneakers in recent years only works to our advantage for this sneaker trend: you can simply conjure your old Vans out of the closet again, if you haven’t thrown them away and you haven’t grown out of them yet. Loafers in particular are making a comeback, so those with laces can stay in the closet for a while. Although the high and low sneakers with laces from Vans have always been a good basis for every outfit, so you don’t have to throw them away in any case. But what is really in now are the loafers from the skate brand. So choose a crazy color, or a fun and interesting pattern like the checkerboard version.
