It may surprise you, but even famous people can’t escape the law. These stars have also spent time in jail, and they now tell us what they did and what it was like to serve their time.
1. Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton spent some time in prison for violating her probation, but the experience has only made her more grateful. “I’m so much more grateful for everything that I have, even just to have a pillow at night or food or whatever. My gratitude has increased so much and I just realize that the media used me to make jokes and be mean. I’m honestly sick of it. I want to use my fame in a good way,” she said. She also got a real wake-up call: “I just feel like my life was going so fast. And there are so many people looking up to you. You live in a crazy and superficial world. Now that I’ve been in prison and seen life through different eyes, I have a lot more compassion for things that are going on around me. And that’s so much more important than what I was dealing with before.”
2. Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan also ended up in prison for violating her probation. She had a very hard time during that period, which is why she was in solitary confinement for fourteen days. She looks back on it somewhat positively: ‘The strangest thing for me was that I finally had silence in my life. As scared as I was, I finally felt like I didn’t have to answer to anyone. I didn’t have to do anything for anyone. That was the strangest thing about it.’
3. Lauryn Hill
Lauryn Hill, singer-songwriter and rapper known for hits like ‘Ex-factor’ and ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’, was sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion. This is what she says about this period in her life: ‘While it has taken some adjustment, I cannot deny the warmth I have experienced here. I have been warmly welcomed by a community of people who, despite their circumstances, have found unique ways to make the best of it.’
