Peaky Blinders fans probably already know this, but a movie about the popular series is on the way. The series’ sixth season ended in 2022, but Thomas Shelby’s story isn’t over yet. It is not yet clear when exactly the film will be released, but some things are already known about what we can expect. We have listed all the facts.
Peaky Blinders is currently being filmed
The Peaky Blinders movie is currently in production. Filming for the movie started in September this year. Netflix announced on September 20 that production on the project has officially begun. Netflix also shared photos from the set, including one showing lead actor Cillian Murphy. Scriptwriter Steven Knight was also featured. The script for the film was almost finished in 2022, according to Knight. At the time he said filming would take place in Birmingham and cameras would start rolling within 18 months. This was not entirely successful. In 2023, the script was finalized, according to Knight.
Who will we see in the film?
Many actors you know from the series will appear in the film that will conclude the series. Tommy Shelby will of course return, played by Cillian Murphy. Other famous names who will appear in the film include Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson. Tim Roth is also an announced co-star for the film. The list is completed with Stephen Graham and Paul Anderson who plays Tommy’s brother Arthur in the series. More names have not yet been announced. For example, we don’t know yet whether we will see Tom Hardy again in the film.
What will the film be about?
It is not yet known what exactly the film will be about. We do know when the movie will take place. When the film was announced, scriptwriter Knight stated that he intended the film to take place during World War II.
“I’m truly thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war,” he said in June this year. In September this year, Knight confirmed that World War II will be the time period in which the Peaky Blinders will be set in the film.
