Ordering food is simply the easiest option, but the meals are often not healthy. What is the least unhealthy delivery meal?
The least unhealthy delivery meal
It is of course very tasty, such a fatty meal. It’s just not healthy. Yet you can easily choose a less unhealthy option. By making conscious choices, you don’t have to cook, but you do eat healthier. These are some smart choices.
1. Thai or Vietnamese dishes
Thai and Vietnamese dishes often use fresh ingredients and herbs. For example, choose a curry, soup or a side dish such as spring rolls. Especially if you eat lean proteins like chicken or shrimp and when there is an option for brown rice, you can easily reach your health goals.
2. Sushi and poke bowl
You can’t go wrong with the basics of rice, vegetables and protein. Sushi and poke bowls are a good mix of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Choose fish, such as tuna or salmon, instead of crispy chicken: fish has much more natural fats, while chicken is deep-fried and therefore a lot unhealthier. Also pay attention to the sauce, as it can contain a lot of calories. Teriyaki and sweet and sour sauce are the best options.
3. Pizza
Besides fries, pizza is considered one of the unhealthiest delivery meals. However, this does not have to be the case: consider thinner bases or vegetable bases, extra vegetables and lean proteins such as chicken. Avoid fatty toppings such as salami, pepperoni or (extra) cheese.
4. Salads
Salads are always a safe option if you want to take care of your health. Most delivery restaurants offer one or more salads. Avoid heavy dressings and opt for a vigaigrette, for example, and instead make sure it contains plenty of vegetables, healthy fats (such as avocado or nuts) and lean proteins such as chicken and shrimp.
5. Falafel
Still fancy something from the shawarma shop? Then consider falafel. These balls are made from chickpeas and various spices, and are therefore often vegan. Choose less sauce and extra vegetables, so you get more out of your meal.
6. Grilled dishes
Grilled dishes are often healthier than fried options. For example, choose grilled chicken or fish. Grilled vegetables are an even better option. Grilled dishes as delivery meals retain many of the nutrients and contain few added fats and calories. It can also be something different than you are normally used to, nice for a change!
