Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s (83) resignation came out of the blue. In her New Year’s Eve speech, the monarch caused a real surprise. After 52 years on the Danish throne, she abdicates. In just a few days – on January 14th – her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik (55), is set to become her successor. This marks the beginning of a completely new era in Denmark. Margrethe’s resignation comes completely suddenly for the fans. As well as for nobility experts Jürgen Worlitzas he admits in the Glamial interview.
After 52 years, Margrethe clears the way for her son. In recent years, the 83-year-old has struggled with several health problems. Her abdication is still a real surprise. “The Queen’s abdication comes as a surprise not only to me, but to all other experts as well. Nobody predicted this,” explains Jürgen Worlitz Glamial. But her resignation also shows “that the really important things in the monarchies remain capped.”
Margrethe served the Danish crown for a very long time. Jürgen Worlitz reflects on her reign in the Glamial interview: “Queen Margrethe was the best thing that could have happened to the Danes: a monarch, initially shy, then with great self-confidence and charisma.” She embodied modern and diverse Denmark.
