That’s how Eloise became a celebrity

We received several questions about Countess Eloise via the email form. Why is she in 4th place on the Influencer100? Why is she featured on this website? How did she become so famous? In this blog we answer all these questions.

The world of influencers is densely populated. If you leave the social media channels alone for a moment, there are 100 competitors ready to take your spot. The fact that Eloise is at number 4 is a real achievement.

The countess’s digital career started in 2019 with some innocent snapshots of her family’s brown Labrador. Because Amalia, Alexia and Ariane were (and are) so jealously shielded, the fragment of Orange news was eagerly embraced. Especially when the garden of Drakensteyn Castle appeared in the background.

Attention quickly shifted to the countess’s own Instagram account, because every news item about the snapshots posted there generated many clicks. Reason for the Jeugdjournaal to interview the count influencer. In the 4-minute fragment we see her making breakfast, posing during a photo session in Lech and throwing a filter over a photo. It is clear to everyone that her royal background is one of the success factors of Eloise’s account.

Partly thanks to the interview, the number of followers has skyrocketed. From 20,000 to 200,000 and more. Because she is in line with current events and is actually an ordinary girl with a royal touch, she also attracts many followers outside this bubble in addition to orange fans. Of course, this does not go unnoticed in the world of (marketing managers). Eloise finds ‘digital shelter’ at Chicks loves food and writes a book about her own life under their wing. Learning by doing will be available in stores in June 2021. At Time for Max she joins a talk show for the first time.

Only a few weeks later the next media moment arrives. Eloise has joined Magnum as an influencer and can open the pop-up exhibition LAYERED in the Beurs van Berlage.

Eloise’s followers are mostly young, female and left-oriented. LINDA. sees an overlap in this and places the countess on the cover of LINDA.meiden in November 2021. With a crown for the royal touch.

In the months that follow, Eloise tries to break away from her royal image. Yet in Het Perfecte Plaatje she is again presented as a member of the royal family. When Jeroen Snel indicates at RTL Boulevard that the bikini photo of the countess could be a danger to the monarchy, a media storm erupts. All kinds of celebrities pose in black swimsuits to indicate that they are Team Eloise.

What Eloise does very well is fitting a profile. While we only know about her niece Amalia that she likes horse riding and is good at cuddling with Mambo, Eloise appropriates certain subjects. One of these is sustainable clothing. On social media she shows that she wears sweaters and dresses from her mother, during the ZAPP Awards she wears a borrowed dress from H&M and she sells her worn clothes via Vinted. In November 2023 she will even launch a children’s book via Kruidvat on the subject: Clothes Enough.

As a promotion, she also reads the book at a primary school in Hilversum.

At the end of 2023, the image will change. The countess changes from a crowd favorite into a bully. How does that happen? Partly by sharing political views (for example about Gaza), partly through a lesson in ‘practice what you preach’. That the countess flies all over the world, but in the LINDA. does indicate that she would like to join Extension Rebellion, for example, causes a lot of frustration. This week she opens a store with second-hand designer clothing together with Princess Laurentien. When I look at the offer, I see many familiar things.

The opening will undoubtedly bring a lot of publicity. And so Eloise continues to stir people’s minds. One last question remains: why is she featured on this website? Questions about the content of this website always have the same answer: because the administrators of this website enjoy blogging about the subject in question. Finishing in 4th place on the Influencers100 is a real achievement in this day and age, which encompasses more than just having a royal background. Her search for her own identity, learning to deal with the media (the interview with LINDA, for example, was not very wise), her search for her own style: at MKM we find it all very interesting to follow. Since Eloise also produces better visitor numbers than Amalia, we think we are not alone in this. And hopefully the Government Information Service will also take this as a warning. If they are not careful, Eloise will determine the image of the Dutch monarchy and the question is whether this will benefit the king and Amalia.
