Besides the national holiday, the monarch had something else to celebrate.
Yesterday, our southern neighbors could celebrate! The annual national holiday was celebrated there, and this meant that the royal family showed up in stylish outfits at the Te Deum in Brussels yesterday. Extra nice: for King Filip there was something else to celebrate.
National holiday
Just as we celebrate King’s Day, the Belgians celebrate a big party every year on July 21st. Everyone is free, the sun is shining, and the royals traditionally show themselves in their finest clothes. In short: the good life!
Yesterday it was that time again, and so King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore made an appearance at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula.
Summer outfits
Although the summer weather didn’t really want to get going in the past few weeks, the sun was fortunately shining in Belgium yesterday. The ladies appeared in bright, summery outfits, with King Filip wearing his military uniform and sons Gabriel and Emmanuel both wearing a neat tailcoat. As far as we’re concerned, the snapshots can go straight into the family album!

For the occasion, according to the experts at @RoyalFashionPolice on Instagram, Queen Mathilde wore a beautiful dress by (how could it be otherwise) Natan, which she combined with a set of Dior pumps and a Philip Treacy hat. Eldest daughter Elisabeth opted for a striking ton sur ton outfit with a highlighter pink Safiyaa dress, a Fabienne Delvigne headband and matching clutch. Only the beige Jimmy Choo pumps deviated from her fuchsia palette. The Benjamin of the couple, Princess Eléonore, appeared bright and mature in a beautiful Diane von Furstenberg dress with red flowers. The sixteen-year-old princess combined this with a set of subtle red heels. Gorgeous!
Double celebration for Filip
By the way, besides the national holiday, there was something else to celebrate for King Filip yesterday. It was exactly eleven years ago that he was installed as the new King of the Belgians. On 21 July 2013, his father, King Albert II, signed the act of abdication, and then it was Filip’s turn to take his oath as the new king.
That he could celebrate this day with his entire family was extra sweet. Daughter Elisabeth will start her master’s degree in Public Policy at Harvard University in the US after the summer, and will therefore not be at the Belgian court for the time being. Fortunately, there are these kinds of beautiful moments that father and daughter can look back on!
