What is sugar wax and how does it work?
Sugar wax is a sugar paste used to remove hair. It removes the hair completely from the root. It is an age-old method of hair removal. The product therefore consists of organic products. The sugar paste is heated and then cooled again. It is sticky so it holds the hair well. After sugar waxing, your hair will stay away for about three to four weeks. This depends on which part of the body you wax and the after-treatment.
The advantages
Organic
The substance of the sugar wax is completely organic. For people with sensitive skin, it may be better than normal wax strips. The ingredients are sugar, lemon juice and water. It’s even edible. It is also an environmentally friendly option. Other waxes often contain chemicals that your skin may not react well to. This is a nice alternative.
Less pain
Of course, sugar waxing is no less painful than shaving. You still feel something about it. However, it is a lot less painful than normal wax or resin products. The substance only sticks to the hairs and not to your skin. Wax, on the other hand, also pulls on your skin when removing the hairs. That is why sugar waxing generally causes less pain for many.
It is flexible
The sugar paste is soft the entire time during waxing. This makes it flexible and your hairs are less likely to break from the root. So it removes the hairs completely. It is also easy to remove. You rinse it off with warm water.
How do you make it yourself at home?
Are you convinced and do you want to try it yourself? This is how you make your own sugar wax:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup water
Put all ingredients in a pan. Heat the pan. When the sugar has melted, stir it continuously. Do this for about ten minutes (so it’s also a good workout). When the mixture has a caramel color, remove the pan from the heat. Carefully pour the mixture into a heatproof container. Then let it cool for five to ten minutes. Make sure it is not still too hot before applying it to your skin. If all goes well, the mixture will have a consistency that is slightly thicker than honey. The sugar wax is ready. Before using it, it is useful to apply some lime powder to your skin. Then you can be sure that it will not stick.
