In Denmark, King Frederik celebrated his birthday extensively last weekend. The monarch then of course appeared on the balcony with the family for the traditional wave and smile moment. What was particularly striking was that the two princesses showed up in very familiar dresses!

The 56e King Frederik’s birthday was a very special one, because it was his first birthday as king of Denmark. When the offspring appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace, fashion lovers immediately noticed something: princesses Isabella and Josephine were dressed in their mother’s dresses. Queen Mary lent her previously worn dresses to the sisters for this special occasion.

The girls clearly looked radiant in their mother’s outfits, which also seemed to be well coordinated! Princess Josephine, for example, wears a white-linen dress with viscose and blue floral details from Paul & Joe. Her mother previously wore this at an anniversary party of a charity organization in 2018.

Princess Isabella’s dress, also in a stylish blue-white floral pattern, is from the Zimmerman fashion house. This midi dress has a fold-over and a large tie closure and was worn by Mary twice before in 2022 and 2023.
Sweet detail: one of Mary’s outings in this Zimmerman dress was in November 2022. That was when the then Crown Princess visited her birthplace, Tanzania. The fact that her daughter subsequently wore the dress for such an important first makes this even more fun!

Party dress
Mary also decided to repeat a dress for the big moment. She chose a bright pink dress from No. 21. This one seems to be a birthday favorite of hers, because she also wore the dress around Frederik’s 50th birthday. This nice eye-catcher was also pulled out of the closet for a working visit in 2019 and at an award show in 2021. Such a timeless dress is not only sustainable, but also good for your wallet!

This choice of the princesses was quite a surprise for the experts. We’re also guessing that Mary herself didn’t know what she was hearing when her daughters chose these two dresses.
For example, the majesty previously shared that her daughters ‘wouldn’t be caught dead’ in her clothes. Perhaps the girls themselves also saw this quote in the media and decided to subtly mock Mom. This gave Mary’s wardrobe a second chance. They are right, because besides the fact that the dresses look beautiful, the princesses also make a conscious choice. Totally noblesse oblige!
