Princess Margriet’s style

On to a new Royal of the month. This time we choose a very well-known person, for us as Dutch people: Princess Margriet. For years she was Queen Beatrix’s right hand and was in the spotlight a lot. And she is still regularly active. She just deserves to be put in the spotlight. Let’s take a closer look at her style.

Youthful

In her youth, Margriet wore the same clothes as her sisters. Slightly frumpy, neat and royal, ordered from Queen Juliana’s favorite designer: Lien Bergé-Farwick.

In the photo below you see Princess Margriet wearing a so-called lampshade hat.

Daisies

When you say Princess Margriet, you also say daisies. The flowers, that is. We also often see her husband, Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven, wearing a tie with daisies or a pin with a daisy. Princess Margriet herself likes a certain symbolism and often incorporates the lovely flowers into her clothing.

Engagement and marriage

On March 10, 1965, the engagement was announced between Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven. The princess wore a dress with a floral pattern. Her hair is nicely put up.

Pieter and Margriet married on January 10, 1967 in The Hague. Princess Margriet wore a wedding dress designed by Lien Bergé-Farwick. Lien designed a dress of white cloqué silk with a woven daisy motif. The fabric was purchased from the Bianchini-Férier silk factory in Paris. The fashion houses Chanel, YSL and Dior also have fabrics manufactured here. Margriet wore the pearl button tiara on her wedding day.

Trend follower

Even today, Princess Margriet still likes to follow the latest fashion. Around 2007 we saw her in shiny jackets with frilled collars. When animal print became hip a few years ago, we could also see Princess Margriet in it.

We see Princess Margriet, her husband and now also son Prince Pieter-Christiaan every year at the commemoration of the dead on the Grebbeberg in Rhenen. There she wears a black outfit as standard, complete with hat or fascinator.

Every year (with some exceptions) Pieter and Margriet also visit New York in connection with the Peter Stuyvesant ball. We always see her there in a prom dress and tiara. In the other blogs we will show more of Margriet during these moments.

With the last Royals of the month (Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Princess Claire), we saw clothes being passed down through family. Occasionally this also happens to our Dutch Royals. For example, Princess Annette wore these emerald green deux pieces from Princess Margriet on King’s Day 2014. A real oldie, because Margriet wore it around Princess Beatrix’s wedding.

This month we hope to pay extensive attention to the top hits and misses. The designers/labels that Princess Margriet likes to buy from are also discussed. The fourth blog will remain a surprise for a while. Will you join us this month to see Princess Margriet’s fashion?
