Norwegian royals refuse to cooperate with Märtha Louise and Durek’s wedding plans

Princess Märtha Louise and shaman Durek Verrett’s wedding, which is taking place this weekend, is far from a traditional royal wedding. The couple have secured a number of exclusive media deals surrounding their big day. The rest of the Norwegian royal family, however, is not so enthusiastic about it.

You can hardly have missed the fact that a grand royal wedding is on the agenda this weekend. Or rather…royal wedding? Although there will be plenty of Norwegian royals in attendance, the big day of Princess Märtha Louise and shaman Durek Verrett is not a royal wedding as we are used to.

Wedding in the spotlight

He is an American shaman, and she is a Norwegian princess. It may not seem like the most logical match, but Märtha Louise and Durek swear they are each other’s ‘twin flames’. They are said to have been lovers in a previous life in ancient Egypt, and they fell head over heels in 2018 after wellness guru Millana Snow introduced them to each other.

Interviews and photos

This weekend, their four (!) day wedding is planned. Now, a royal wedding in the Norwegian fjords with a boat trip and a (last-minute cancelled) gin collaboration is already quite unique. However, the shaman and the princess are taking it a step further and have made a deal with glossy Hello! Magazine and Netflix. These two parties would have the exclusive rights to publish images of the wedding.

Before the big party, the couple has already done a big interview with Hello! Magazine. From their love affair to ML’s daughters and from spiritual bond to criticism – everything is discussed in their conversation. Of course, this also means that Hello! and sister publication Hola! will be able to shoot all kinds of exclusive snapshots of the big day this weekend.

Harald and Sonja

That news did raise a few eyebrows. Because, well, as the eldest daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja, Princess Märtha has an impressive number of royal guests on her guest list. Could this mean that the Norwegian royal couple is also participating in this exclusive glossy deal?

However, the court made it clear in a response that this is absolutely not the case. “We are aware of the exclusive rights granted to two media channels for the reporting of the wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett. The members of the royal family will not be photographed or filmed by these two channels at times when other press also does not have access.”

In other words: the Norwegian royals are not going to let themselves be harnessed to the cart of a glossy magazine. It remains to be seen whether any other royal guests have made similar agreements. And hey, if not, it’s probably also nice to be behind the scenes – with or without a glass of exclusive gin.
