In previous blogs we looked at Royals who got engaged in red and blue. There are also several ladies who got engaged in the colors white and/or beige. Moderator Petra has made an overview of it.
Let’s start with a fun fact that unfortunately there is no picture of. During the announcement of the engagement, Máxima wore a red dress by Joseph Ting. When the media moment was over, she put on a white dress from Natan to celebrate her engagement. So yes, Máxima had two engagement dresses and one of them was white.
Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano
Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano wore a stark white pantsuit during the announcement of her engagement to Spanish Crown Prince Felipe. The Spanish young lady was a TV presenter by profession. On October 31, 2003 she presented the 9 o’clock news, the next day she was in the news herself. The two had managed to keep their relationship, which only lasted a year, completely secret. Letizia was divorced, not Roman Catholic and not of nobility. That caused quite a stir in Spain. Fortunately, because she was not married in church, the divorce was not insurmountable. And so the couple married on May 22, 2004 in Madrid’s Almuneda Cathedral.
Marie Cavallier
On October 3, 2007, the engagement was announced between the French Marie Agathe Odille Cavallier and the Danish Prince Joachim. Marie wore a white pleated skirt with a white jacket in the official engagement photos.
Mary Donaldson
No white for Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, but champagne color. The fiancée of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark chose a dress with two bronze-colored bands around the waist. Outside she wore a white bouclé coat. Frederik and Mary met at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. They announced their engagement on October 8, 2003.
Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby
The Norwegian Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, in turn, opted for a beige suit. Her engagement to Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon was announced on December 1, 2000. The couple met in 1999 at the Quart Festival in Norway. Mette-Marit had a two-year-old son at the time, but Haakon fell in love with her and went for it completely. Perhaps it was fortunate that his father, King Harald, had endured years of struggle and had persevered to be allowed to marry his Sonja. Crown Prince Haakon did the same, and not only Mette-Marit, but also her son Marius, was fully accepted within the royal family.
Silvia Sommerlath
Silvia Renate Sommerlath is the woman who captured the heart of Swedish Crown Prince Carl Gustaf. They met at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 1973, King Carl Gustaf’s grandfather died and he became King of Sweden. On March 12, 1976, the engagement between Silvia Sommerlath and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden was announced. Silvia wore a white skirt with dark stripes, combined with a white blouse and a matching scarf. After her marriage, Silvia would immediately become Queen of Sweden.
Claire Lademacher
On December 13, 2012, the engagement was announced between Luxembourg’s Prince Felix and Claire Margaretha Lademacher. Claire grew up in Germany. The two met at boarding school in Switzerland. When announcing their engagement, Claire wore a champagne-colored dress.
Lili Rosboch von Wolkenstein
Lili introduced herself in a white dress with a bouclé jacket.
Tatiana Blatnik
Greek Prince Nikolaos announced his engagement to Tatiana Blatnik on December 28, 2009. Tatiana was dressed in a very beautiful and elegant white suit.
Mabel Wisse Smit
Mabel Wisse Smit wore a white suit during the announcement of her engagement to Prince Friso on June 30, 2003.
