Last time she combined her light blue skirt with a classic bow blouse, but for the King’s Day concert Máxima decided to take a different approach. A bright yellow top was taken out of the closet, with a surprising result.
This year’s King’s Day concert has the theme ‘voices from borderless Emmen’. A program has been put together with contributions from, among others, the Calefax reed quintet, harpist Remy van Kesteren, singer Rosa da Silva and the Animato Quartet. They perform works by Pietro Antonio Locatelli, George Gershwin, Leo Smit, Kinan Azmeh and Daniël Lohues, born in Emmen. Ensemble BOI AKIH plays a composition by guitarist Niels Brouwer with a text by singer Monica Akihary. A new work that Remy van Kesteren wrote for the King’s Day concert will also be performed.
The King’s Day concert traditionally takes place in the month preceding King’s Day. The initiative was taken in 1985 by Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus. Every year a different combination of ensembles and artists takes center stage. Until 2013, the concert took place at Noordeinde Palace. Since 2014, the concert has been organized in the municipality where the Royal family celebrates King’s Day. At the invitation of the municipality of Emmen and the province of Drenthe, the Royal family will celebrate King’s Day in Emmen on Saturday, April 27.
