Mature skin? These make-up tips will make you shine!

This is how you create a fresh look!

Just as you need to adjust your skincare and makeup as the seasons change, so does the passing of the years. Over the decades, your skin’s needs change considerably – from teenage pimples to fine lines. With these tips you create the perfect basis for a radiant look!

Aged skin

Sometimes it is difficult to determine exactly what your skin needs. And let’s be honest: it is also very unpleasant to discover that our favorite foundation or favorite creams simply no longer have the desired effect. And you soon notice that the rest of your look no longer shines as you are used to.

Fortunately, the search for your new favorite basics does not have to be very difficult thanks to a few tips. The experts explain to Woman & Home what they recommend to their clients with mature skin. With these three golden tips you create the perfect basis for a chic look.

1. You can learn to hydrate

A fresh look starts with good care. And that means: make sure your skin is sufficiently hydrated! “I always recommend using more hydrating skincare products because as we get older our skin can start to feel a little drier,” reveals celebrity make-up artist Morag Ross.

For example, you can look for skincare products with niacinamide or hyaluronic acid. These ingredients ensure that your skin is gently hydrated and can retain moisture better. Have you found a new favorite serum? It is then recommended to apply it before your moisturizer on slightly damp skin. This way you get the most out of your new routine.

2. Invest in a good primer

Well-cared for skin is step one towards a radiant face. But when applying your make-up, you may notice that your foundation finds its way faster and faster to the lines in your face, suddenly accentuating them. Shame!

Fortunately, you can prevent this with a good primer. “A high-quality primer helps your foundation to stay on your skin, instead of disappearing into lines,” reveals beautician Elizabeth Ross. An extra bonus for those of us who are not averse to a colorful make-up look: a good primer also ensures that your make-up stays in place better and colors stand out better.

3. Use a light, dewy foundation

As we just mentioned, your skin often becomes slightly drier as the years pass. A good tip is to adjust your foundation accordingly, explains Elizabeth Ross. “It’s important not to use a super matte foundation as a base: this creates a flat, powdery look that is unflattering, often looks and feels heavy, and can even emphasize lines,” says the expert.

Instead, it’s best to opt for a lighter, thinner foundation. For example, use a serum foundation or a tinted moisturizer. With minimal coverage you let the natural beauty of your skin shine!
