The first divorce in season 9 of Married At First Sight is a fact. The marriage of Dirk (67) and Anneke (60) has now officially ended, to the disappointment of Dirk and the experts. They call it a failed experiment. As a result, the final conversation between Dirk, Anneke, presenter Carlo Boszhard and the experts becomes quite a tough, confrontational conversation. And the experts aren’t done with the two yet!
Dirk and Anneke end their Married At First Sight marriage
For the experts from Married At First Sight, it felt unexpected when things went badly between Dirk and Anneke. Although things did indeed go well between the two on the wedding day. At that moment, they immediately seemed to have good chemistry. They are also two quite extroverted people, who dare to give a kiss here and there. According to behavioral biologist Patrick van Veen, they have also made history. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen in the history of Married at First Sight where two people come up to the official and kiss each other on the mouth before anything has been said,” Patrick said. However, feelings change quickly after the first day, especially with Anneke. Patrick now understands where things went wrong. “Anneke was in love with the picture,” he explains. “And that picture wasn’t so much Dirk, but the attention. That’s what she fell in love with.”
Confrontational final conversation
Because the struggles within the marriage arose quickly, the marriage also ended prematurely. In episode 14 of Married At First Sight the time has come and Dirk and Anneke have their last conversation. They both feel calm beforehand. Dirk is curious about what is being said today. Anneke also feels relaxed because she is herself again. “That is very important,” says Anneke. They both mainly want to close the chapter. Although Dirk does become emotional for a moment when they see the images of the wedding day. “Wow, this could have been so beautiful,” he says. Anneke also looks back on the wedding day with good feelings. “I felt very happy that day. I was hopeful,” Anneke tells presenter Carlo Boszhard, who wonders whether she has performed a play. He then remains strict with her. She wanted to give it a chance, but the chance quickly disappeared according to Carlo. But it just didn’t feel right for Anneke. “I wasn’t myself anymore,” she says.
Carlo also talks about the fact that Anneke initially rejects her match based on appearance. Only Anneke doesn’t want to talk about this anymore, because she hurt him very much at the time. “It was a combination of circumstances,” says Anneke. The fact that Carlo is so strict with Anneke in particular is probably because the experts are somewhat disappointed. Patrick even thinks “that we cannot call it an experiment”. “It stopped too quickly,” Patrick said.
No experiment
According to Anneke, she just panicked. That behavior apparently doesn’t suit her. “If I panic, I have to hit the brakes,” she says. She then gets the chance to ask a question herself. And her main question is: why is she matched with Dirk? “You are both very full of life,” Patrick explains. In addition, they are both birds of paradise and are sexually “on”. They are also certainly friendly to each other. Patrick repeats once again that Anneke says nothing more about the comments about Dirk’s appearance during the final conversation. She doesn’t want to hurt him again.
That is why the experts think it is a shame that Dirk and Anneke did not last. They actually could have gotten to know each other better. Then they might also have been able to learn from each other, according to sexologist Eveline Stallaart. For example, Dirk often works from his feelings, while Anneke mainly works from her head. “You could have gained great insights into this,” she explains. “I would have given you that.”

Whether her words are sincere or not: the marriage between Dirk and Anneke is definitely over. According to Dirk, the butterflies were gone from him after the wedding night. “Then the butterflies were killed by you,” he reads from his letter. He is also disappointed by the fact that there was a ‘list’. “It hurt me terribly,” it continues. “I felt cheated, fooled and hurt.” Anneke’s letter is a lot shorter than Dirk’s, but she apologizes for causing offense. She also wishes him the best and a better wife. All nice words, but Dirk – just like the viewers – doesn’t quite believe it: “I don’t have the feeling that you really mean it.” Ouch… She clearly damaged him immensely. Nevertheless, the experts still want to work on Dirk and Anneke, but more for their own future in love. “This is not the ending we like,” said Patrick. Interesting!
