Let’s peek: how are things going at Ariane’s school?

Music, charity, and the normal lessons: the princess is busy.

Following in the footsteps of father Willem-Alexander and sister Alexia, Princess Ariane also decided to complete her secondary education at the prestigious United World College. But instead of a place in Wales, she chose the Italian department in picturesque Duino. In a few months her first year on the Italian coast will come to an end, so we thought it was high time to take a peek: how are things going there?

Italian boarding school

On the coast, in a castle, in the picturesque Italian landscape near Trieste, the young Princess Ariane is now hard at work to obtain her International Baccalaureate. At the beginning of the school year, at the end of August last year, the Royal House shared a sweet photo of the youngest A’tje in front of the gate of her new home, which was personally taken by King Willem-Alexander.

We are now quite a few months further. During her Christmas holiday, the princess was happily photographed with her parents and sisters, but otherwise we hear little about her highness. In general, the school is careful to ensure that HH is not recognizable on their social media, although observant viewers can sometimes catch a glimpse of Ariane in their Instagram Stories, such as last Friday.

Busy schedule

But what do the students at the Italian boarding school do? The UWC Adriatic is part of the United World College, a school community with departments all over the world.

“We believe that education should help young people discover that change is possible, and that they can make it happen,” they state on their website. In practice, this means that students at one of the prestigious boarding schools, in addition to their regular curriculum, are also involved in all kinds of charity projects and initiatives in the areas of, for example, sustainability, diversity and community. The young students have quite busy lives!

But what does that mean? Fortunately, the school shares plenty of snapshots of all their special events on the Instagram page. In recent months, their students have visited prestigious organizations such as CERN…

Musical environment

It is no coincidence that local musicians receive so much attention: the Italian department of the UWC has a particular focus on music. “Music plays a major role at the UWC Adriatic thanks to the presence of an in-house music academy,” the website reads.

So far we haven’t seen any dazzling performances from Princess Ariane, but who knows! Perhaps Ariane will soon appear in videos of the school choir? Or could she use her musical skills for her royal duties upon return to the Netherlands, à la Princess Kate on the piano?

Keep it up

The school year is not over yet for Ariane – the closing ceremony will not take place until May 18 and the students will leave for home on May 19. In between, the princess still has a long weekend to enjoy Easter. Who knows: perhaps Ariane can teach all kinds of Italian hits to her (equally musical) sisters? We would absolutely love a royal pop choir!
