Ivalo and Minik, as the Greenlandic press calls Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, surprised the Greenlanders again yesterday with their presence. How nice!

But why are the twins called Ivalo and Minik in Greenland? Princess Josephine’s full name is Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda. Her third name, Ivalo, is a Greenlandic name. This is in honor of the fact that Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Prince Vincent also received a Greenlandic name in his baptismal name. His full name is Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander. For the Greenlanders, it is therefore not Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, but – proud as they are of the Greenlandic name of the couple -, she calls them Prince Minik and Princess Ivalo. This was also the case during the previous visit of the then Crown Prince’s family to Greenland, in August 2014.

Here we see 7-year-old Princess Isabella in an East Greenland costume. Princess Josephine (Ivalo) and Prince Vincent (Minik) both wore a North Greenland costume. Vincent stands out with his polar bear trousers. Prince Christian was dressed in a white anorak, black trousers and black and white kamiks (boots).

2024
Back to yesterday. At a quarter to ten the royal couple arrived in Sisimut with the Dannebrog. Sisimut is the second largest town in Greenland, with almost 5,500 inhabitants. In Sisimut the museum was visited, accompanied by Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. Afterwards King Frederik and Prince Vincent visited a company that produces dog food in a sustainable and local way and were present at a presentation. Queen Mary visited a center for the disabled.

The royal couple then attended a reception at the Kulturhuset Tseralik, after which they were given a tour of Sismut. They also visited the KTI Tech College Greenland in Sisimut. This college works together with the Technical University of Denmark to operate the Centre for Arctic Technology. At 3:30 p.m., the royal couple attended a coffee meeting in the sports hall, where associations from the city presented themselves. Finally, at 5:45 p.m., the royal couple held a reception on the royal ship Dannebrog.

Fashion Mary
Queen Mary wore the Greenlandic national costume, also known as the kallaalisuut, during part of the visit. How beautiful, this colorful costume! The cream-colored kamiks (boots) are also beautiful.

Later we saw Queen Mary in a sleeveless coat (long waistcoat) by Arma, over a thin down jacket by Uniqlo. Under the coats she wears a white turtleneck on dark trousers.

Fashion Josephine
Princess Josephine borrowed a smart checked coat from her mother. Princess Isabella has also worn this coat before. The dark blue checked coat by Massimo Dutti was worn by Josephine over the down jacket from Uniqlo, which her mother Mary wore later in the day. Underneath her coats, Josephine wore gray pants and a matching turtleneck.
