This is how you get rid of dark spots on your face

Dark spots on your skin and face, also known as hyperpigmentation, are among other things a result of our beloved but occasionally dangerous sun. Here you can read how the stains occur and how to remove them.

You do this against dark spots on your face

To arise

When you have dark spots on your skin, this means that your skin produces too much melanin (pigment in your skin that protects your skin against UV radiation). This has several reasons: inflammation, a change in hormone levels (e.g. birth control pills, pregnancy, menopause) or skin damage. Most spots are the result of sun exposure. While you are baking to finally get that tan again, your body produces melanin which helps to block UV rays that damage our DNA and our skin. Sometimes this production goes crazy, after which the excess melanin clumps together and flows between the skin cells. The result: brown spots on your skin.

Prevent

Prevention is better than cure, they always say. Especially in conditions caused by the sun. With your best friend, sunscreen, everything will be fine. Choose a high SPF (at least 30) and reapply every two hours when you’re outside in the sun or sitting next to a window. Apply more if you have been swimming or sweating to prevent your skin from being left without protection. We shouldn’t have that.

To delete

If it is visible, there are several products and substances that remove or fade pigment spots caused by the sun.

Vitamin C: this helps in the fight against pigment spots. It inhibits the production of melanin, which causes dark spots to fade.

Vitamin C serum

serum

Retinol: this form of vitamin A has an exfoliating effect. Which means it removes dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. It also increases the renewal of your skin. It takes a while before you see a difference.

Retinol Night Serum

serum

Mild exfoliants: A category that includes glycolic, mandelic, and lactic acids, they help remove dead skin cells and help hydrate the skin. You have it as a serum or as home peelings in the form of wipes.

Specialized treatments: Some people are interested in a dermatologist-approved solution. An example of this is Cyspera, an effective topical treatment that helps remove brown spots, treat pigmented spots and achieve a more even skin tone. It is especially recommended for patients with dark skin, as hyperpigmentation is difficult to treat.
