Investigation into Joost Klein’s Eurovision incident halted due to lack of evidence

Good news for Joost Klein! The investigation against him for the incident that occurred at the Eurovision Song Contest has been dropped. The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) announced today that they have closed the case due to lack of evidence. This means no trial for Joost!

Investigation against Joost Klein has been closed

According to the Swedish Public Prosecution Service, the investigation revealed that Joost made a quick movement that accidentally hit the camera. Because of this quick action, the stories of Joost and the camerawoman differ and it is not possible to determine what exactly happened. The public prosecutor, Fredrik Jönsson, states: “Today the investigation is closed because it cannot be proven that the act caused real fear and that this was the intention of the man.”

Looking back at the Eurovision drama

Let’s do a quick recap for anyone who missed it: Joost Klein was disqualified in May before he could sing his song “Europapa” in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. This was all because of the incident with the camerawoman who had filed a complaint against him. The Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS was not exactly happy about this. Joost himself has not said anything about the incident in all those months, so his side of the story remains a mystery. In the meantime, AVROTROS is doubting whether they want to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest again next year. They first want the organizers to adjust their policy, because several delegations have reported complaints about the atmosphere behind the scenes.

S10 speaks out about Eurovision Song Contest

S10 recently spoke out about her experience at the Eurovision Song Contest on Sophie & Jeroen on NPO 1. The singer, who participated in 2022 with the song De Diepte, also found the song festival to be ‘intense’. According to Stien, the atmosphere behind the scenes was so unsafe that she filed an official complaint at the time. According to the singer, it was about the lack of respect for personal boundaries by some backstage employees at the Eurovision Song Contest. AVROTROS, the organization behind the Dutch entries, later confirmed that a report had indeed been filed.

What now for Joost?

Now that the investigation has been stopped, Joost can finally focus on his music and fans again. We hope to hear from him again soon and who knows, he might just be back on the Eurovision stage next year! It was previously stated that Joost is welcome again next year.
