Hip hooray for Count Nikolai! The handsome Danish royal is blowing out 25 candles today. In honor of this day, the Danish court is sharing some beautiful snapshots of the count via Instagram.
Celebrations in Denmark! Count Nikolai of Monpezat, the eldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe, celebrates his 25th birthday. The handsome Dane may have lost his princely title a few years ago, but the day is still celebrated with royal congratulations from the court.
Count Nikolai’s birthday
The Danish court was there in time this morning to put the Count in the spotlight. “🇩🇰 His Excellency Count Nikolai is celebrating his birthday and turns 25 today 🇩🇰,” they wrote under two cheerful photos of Nikolai. The first photo shows him in a sporty outfit on Roys Peak in New Zealand, and the second photo is a family snapshot taken at Château de Cayx in France.

From prince to model
Although Nikolai grew up as a prince, he now only bears the title ‘count’. This is due to Queen Margrethe’s decision to let her grandchildren grow up in as much freedom as possible. Only the children of King Frederik and Queen Mary may still call themselves princes and princesses, the rest have passed to counts and countesses.
But despite the fact that Nikolai no longer has the title of prince, he is still very much in the spotlight. The handsome royal decided to pursue a career as a model, and he is doing very well. He is invited to Fashion Weeks, shines on one cover after another and has even been on the front page of a Dutch magazine.
Satisfying
Count Nikolai has clearly chosen his own path, but that does not mean he has forgotten his background and family. “Growing up as a member of the Danish royal family has always been very dear to me,” he previously told Numéro magazine. “My childhood was full of happiness and also relatively normal. That said, I am aware of the special circumstances in which I grew up and the responsibilities that come with it. I think I have handled that well,” the count said.
And of course we can only agree with that. Congratulations, Nikolai!
