You get dressed and wonder if you can wear that bra one more time, or if it should go in the wash. How often should you actually wash it?
Three times is a charm
Washing your bra too often does more harm than good. Therefore, first stay away from the washing machine for a while: by putting your bra in the wash you damage the elasticity that ensures you get good support. As soon as it loses its shape, the fit is also immediately different. It may be that it no longer fits comfortably, has become too tight or that strange lumps are forming in it. Only after three to four wears should the bra make a trip to the washing machine.
Wash faster?
How often you should wash your bra also depends on what you do with it and how intensively you work during the day. For example, if you sweat a lot, you will have to wash it more often. Your sports variants will therefore have to be washed after each wear. If you only wear your bra for a few hours, it doesn’t count as an effective wear. So that sexy lingerie set that you only wear on special occasions, only the underpants need to be washed.
No fixed schedule
Don’t worry: it’s no big deal if you wear it a day or two too many, or wear the same one two days in a row. It is useful to have several copies on hand and to alternate occasionally so that the elastic does not stretch too quickly. Also take it off when you go to sleep: this is not only good for your own health, but this also allows it to recover, so that its elasticity and shape are perfect again the next morning.
Washing and drying
A hand wash is sufficient for your bra, but check the labels carefully for the correct washing instructions. If it can be washed in the washing machine, set the machine to gentle cycle. Also put them in a special laundry bag, so that you do not damage the delicate material. You also have to be careful with the dryer: The heat and spinning can damage the elasticity of the piece. It is recommended to simply lay the bra flat and let it air dry: this will prevent it from being stretched. To be sure, put a towel underneath it to prevent drips, but never wring it out.
Bra storage
Line them all up in a drawer, just as they would be in a store. Crumpling them can cause them to warp, and that’s definitely not what you want.
