Among other things, she misses the long-awaited state banquet for the Emperor and Empress of Japan.
Yesterday it was announced that Princess Anne is in hospital. This follows an incident that took place on Sunday evening at her own estate in Gatcombe Park. The royal has therefore – logically – stopped her work for at least one week.
Accident
Princess Anne is currently in hospital with minor injuries and a concussion following an accident. Hello! Magazine reported that Princess Anne was walking on her estate when the incident occurred. While the exact cause of her injuries has not been confirmed, her medical team did reveal that her head injuries were consistent with the possible impact of a horse’s head or legs. After the incident, the emergency services were quickly on the scene and after a medical check, Anne was transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol
Putting down work
The accident comes at a rather unfortunate time for the British royal family, as Princess Anne took over many royal duties from the ailing King Charles and Princess Kate. In recent months, she has managed to fill the gap left by the reduction in the number of working royals to a large extent. Due to her injuries, the princess will miss a whole series of royal events. For the coming week, the daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth has had to cancel at least eight appointments in London, Hampshire and Edinburgh, among other places.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson today confirmed: “Following advice from doctors, Her Royal Highness’s appointments for the coming week will be postponed. Her Royal Highness apologizes to anyone who may experience any inconvenience or disappointment as a result.”
State banquet Japan and tour Canada
The first day of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako’s state visit will end tonight with a radiant state banquet, to which Princess Anne was of course also invited. But unfortunately she now has to miss this festive event.
The visit to Canada, where the 73-year-old royal was due to fly to at the end of this week for a tour, has also been cancelled. However, the country’s government is investigating how its planned activities on Sunday and Monday could be adjusted so that the princess can still carry them out.
She also canceled the Commonwealth Agricultural Conference in Edinburgh for today, the opening of a renovated clubhouse at Warsash Sailing Club in Hampshire for Wednesday and a visit to Strathcarron Hospice in Denny, Stirling and Falkirk from the agenda.
