Arjen Lubach, the king of Dutch satire, will stop his legendary program De Avondshow. Yes, you read that right – after the next season it’s really over and done with. We know, it’s a shame, but fortunately there is one more season coming up in the fall. After that season, Lubach permanently leaves the VPRO.

“For ten years we were given every space and opportunity to make satirical television for the VPRO. I am immeasurably grateful to the VPRO for that. I have always found the contact with all VPRO employees very pleasant, both professionally and personally. Yet “It’s sometimes time for new adventures and our collaboration is now coming to an end,” Arjen himself shares about his departure.
But don’t panic!
For all the fans who are really stressed right now: stay calm! Arjen Lubach says that he will not simply disappear from the scene. He is full of plans for the future: “But don’t worry: making comedy television is in my blood, so the Netherlands is not done with us yet.” So you will undoubtedly see and hear a lot from him in the future. Maybe in a completely different way than we are used to, who knows!
An important figure in the Dutch TV world
The editor-in-chief of the VPRO, Willem van Zeeland, is full of praise for what Arjen has achieved in recent years: “Arjen Lubach and his team have made classic television for the VPRO for ten years. It made him an important voice in the Netherlands and he knew to reach millions of people with his sharp humor. First weekly in Zondag with Lubach and since 2022 with the daily Evening Show.” And he’s right! Arjen has become an icon on Dutch television. His humor, his sharp look at current events and the way he always makes us think – that is truly unique.
What now?
Well, that is the question. It is not yet known what Arjen and his team will do after this last season. But one thing is certain: they will probably surprise us often and make us laugh. In any case, we can’t wait to see what other geniuses they have in store. So dear people, let’s all enjoy this last season of The Evening Show.
