Harry and Meghan on online bullying: ‘Protect children from the digital world’

The two are launching a new project with which they aim to combat online bullying and its consequences.

After their infamous TV appearance with Oprah in 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t done any joint interviews. Until now! The two sat down with CBS to discuss their new initiative, which aims to provide support to parents of children who have been damaged by online media.

Online media

The full interview will air on August 4, but CBS is sharing a preview of the conversation now. In it, Meghan talks about their unconditional love for Archie and Lilibet, and their desire as parents to protect them. “They’re 3 and 5. They’re amazing,” she says of her children. “All you want to do as parents is protect them. And we can see what’s happening in the digital world. We know there’s a lot of work to be done and we want to be a part of that.”

The Parents Network

Harry also emphasizes that it is essential for parents to know “how to help”. And that is not always easy. That is precisely why they are soon launching their new project, The Parents Network, with which they want to familiarize children with the world of social media. “We can see what is happening in the digital world, and we also know that there is still a lot of work to be done there”, Meghan explains. “And we are happy that we can be part of a positive change in this way”.

In addition, they also want to focus their project on parents of children who are victims of online bullying. “It has become so bad that every parent should be able to be a first responder,” says Harry. “And even the best responders cannot recognize all the signs of suicidal tendencies. That makes it so incredibly scary.”

Harry and Meghan

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex themselves also regularly have to deal with nasty reactions and hateful messages. Over the years, the British press has published many wild stories about Prince Harry and Meghan, which have continued to provoke endless angry reactions. The phone hacks that the Duke of Sussex was a victim of have of course also played a role in this. And that doesn’t leave you unmoved, of course.

Earlier this week, Harry said he no longer ‘dares’ take Meghan back to his motherland for this reason. “It only takes one person, one person who reads this stuff, to decide to take action based on what they’ve read. And whether that’s with a knife or an acid attack… these are real concerns for me. It’s one of the reasons I won’t take my wife back to this country,” Harry said.
