Some people become extremely nauseous after just one roller coaster ride, while others can easily complete three or four laps in a row. Or even more! Last Wednesday, 3FM DJ Luc Sarneel rode the wooden roller coaster Untamed in Walibi Holland no less than 35 times in a row. OMG! Of course he did this not for nothing, but because of a campaign by Serious Request 2023 for the charity Stichting ALS.

Well, when you promise something, you have to deliver on it. From Monday December 18 to Sunday December 24, three DJs from NPO 3FM will again lock themselves in the well-known Glass House, which this year is located on the Grote Markt in Nijmegen. Although the largest TV campaign has not yet started, various donation campaigns have already been started on the Serious Request website. 3FM DJ Luc Sarneel also created such a donation campaign and it turned out to be quite special. For every ten euros donated, he would make one extra lap on the so-called Untamed roller coaster in Walibi Holland. That is a wooden roller coaster that goes 92 kilometers per hour and in which you hang upside down five times. Sounds quite intense, but Luc still wants to do this as often as possible!
Ultimately, Luc can also make many laps on the roller coaster on Wednesday, December 6. People donate en masse to his campaign for charity. Although his target amount is 333 euros, he ultimately raises 580 euros. So that’s 58 laps on the Walibi roller coaster, you would think. Unfortunately, together with a group of listeners from 3FM, he does not make it to 58 laps. The amusement park had to close at 9:30 PM and at that time they had ‘only’ 35 laps. Aww.
3,650 euros raised
Yet Luc does not have to be disappointed. They were able to increase the total amount of his donation campaign even further. This year, the proceeds from all Serious Request donations will go to the ALS Foundation. And for this, Luc raised a total of 3,650 euros. Wow!
By the way, it is certainly not just something, Luc admits to Omroep Flevoland. “It’s scary in the dark. You don’t know where you’re going,” he says. “I hadn’t taken that into account at all. You don’t see what’s happening. You are surprised by left, right, up, down.” The listeners who accompanied him also had to swallow in advance. “I don’t feel like it at all,” says one listener honestly. “It’s been 25 years for me. I’m terrified of it.” Oh oh!
Another listener is actually not a fan of roller coasters at all. “The entrance ticket to Efteling already makes me feel sick,” he says. Unfortunately, he really owed it to his colleagues, with whom he had together raised more than 1,000 euros for Serious Request. With at least 1,000 euros he had to get on the roller coaster.
