The fashion spectacle doesn’t stop there! Today Máxima is again in every inch a queen, partly thanks to a new dress and hat.
In New York, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima start with a walk in the East Flatbush neighborhood, Brooklyn, where community empowerment is central. They speak to various residents and organizations about urban challenges, such as climate, affordable housing and a resilient society.
In New Lab, an incubator space for startups, located in the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, the royal couple will then speak with participants in the business event with a focus on startups, inclusive finance and energy and cleantech.
Future400: Castello Map
As part of Future400, a series of cultural and community events to mark New York’s Dutch history, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will also view the exhibition New York Before New York: The Castello Plan of New Amsterdam about an important part of “Dutch New York” history and the role of various communities, including original residents and enslaved people, within New Amsterdam. Central to this is the Castello Map that tells the story of New Amsterdam.
Future400: High Line
The High Line is a major public park and public art exhibit of New York City, built on an old elevated train track with horticulture and design in public spaces. The gardens were designed by Piet Oudolf and are mainly focused on local plants and sustainability.
The Royal Couple takes a walk on the High Line, during which an explanation is given by Alan van Capelle, executive director of Friends of the High Line. At the end of the walk they speak to young people who work at the High Line about the meaning the park has for them.
Fashion
For the fourth day of the trade mission, Máxima put a new dress in her suitcase. It is a light blue design with green accents and transparent sleeves. More information follows.
The green calotte was made by Jolanda, Máxima’s maid. Years ago she took a hat-making course with milliner Berry Rutjes. Since then, her hats have regularly appeared. Máxima also has this design in camel in her walk-in closet.
