Experts explain.
If we are to believe various studies, our hair grows about half a centimeter per month. However, this also depends on your age, gender, hormones and health. But what if you want to make your hair grow faster? Is there a way to do that, or is it just a fable that we are happy to believe?
Accelerate hair growth
To get straight to the point: there is a good chance that you cannot simply make your hair grow faster. “There are certainly options for hair regrowth, but increasing the speed of this is a difficult question to answer,” said Charles Puza, a dermatologist.
Vitamins
However, there are two vitamins that have been shown to support hair growth, says Rae Lynn Kinler, hair transplant surgeon. “Vitamins D and E. Other useful supplements include protein-rich collagen and plant-based ingredients.”
Minoxidil
In addition, there are of course many hair growth serums, where experts always spoke enthusiastically about the ingredient minoxidil. This ingredient is said to have the proven ability to regrow hair and slow down hair loss.
“The treatment is a vasodilator, meaning it widens the blood vessels to deliver more oxygen-rich blood to the hair follicles,” Kinler said. “Minoxidil also helps increase the size of hair follicles, which promotes the growth of thicker, stronger hairs.”
Light therapy
Finally, light therapy is also a form of accelerating your hair growth. “Low-level laser therapy works by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation,” Puza explains. “This improves the health of the scalp so that hair can grow better and faster.” However, you should not immediately assume that it will actually have an effect. “Because results from laser therapy have been inconsistent, the conclusion from the medical community seems to be that it seems to work for some people, but not for some,” Kinler added.
