At the time, she could only dream of a life full of glitz and glamour.
Not all members of royal families were born with a silver spoon in their mouths, as evidenced by the jobs some had before moving into the palaces and castles they now call home. A striking example of this is Sarah Ferguson, who cleaned toilets for a living before she married Prince Andrew.
Post-royal jobs
While bloodline royals are born as princes or princesses and therefore do not have to work behind the counter at the local supermarket as an adolescent, other members only start their royal career at a later age. And although you might not expect it, some of them led extremely ‘normal’ lives before entering the palace. For example, none other than Princess Kate worked as a waitress (also a bad one, if we can believe her), Queen Letizia presented the news and our own Máxima reportedly had several jobs in education. Not to mention the infamous reality career that Princess Sofia of Sweden has had…
Cleaning toilets
Well, it turns out that the life of a royal as we see it today has not always been a bed of roses (and tiaras). Take Sarah Ferguson’s. Before she won the heart of Prince Andrew, a life full of glitz and glamor was only something she could dream of. In 2016, the Duchess revealed in the Swedish TV program Skavlan that she cleaned toilets for a living at the age of eighteen. Later, she worked as a waitress, just like Kate, until she met her Prince Charming.
Royal life
Sarah and Andrew married in 1986, only to end their marriage ten years later. However, there was absolutely no question of a contested divorce. In fact, the two still live together and share joys and sorrows with each other. Nowadays, cleaning toilets is no longer part of her to-do list, and Sarah especially enjoys the time she spends with her daughters and grandchildren – okay, and a glamorous royal event here and there.
