Those winter months can really upset you and leave you with a lack of energy. You don’t see much of the sun, it’s cold and you prefer to lie on the couch all day with a blanket, tea and chocolate. Do you have little energy in the winter? Then do these things to feel fitter again!
1. Provide sufficient sunlight
That’s easy to say with all the rain lately… but you can do something about it, even if there are rainy days. Daylight influences our biological clock and can increase energy levels. Therefore, try to spend at least 15-30 minutes outside every day, preferably in the morning. If this becomes very difficult due to the weather, you can consider purchasing a light therapy lamp.
2. Exercise regularly
Exercising regularly is an excellent way to increase your energy levels. It doesn’t even have to be intensive, but a short walk can help. So you can combine this nicely with point 1; ensure sufficient sunlight. Of course you can also do something else. Choose the activities that you enjoy doing so that you stay motivated.
3. Eat healthy
Better to throw that chocolate in the trash and opt for fruit, whole grains, vegetables or lean protein sources. Avoid sugars and processed foods, as these cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels, meaning less energy.
4. Drink enough water
Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Drinking little water can lead to fatigue, so make sure you stay hydrated, even in winter.
5. Enough sleep
Ensure a regular sleep pattern and sufficient hours of sleep. A good night’s sleep is essential for the body’s recovery and maintaining energy.
6. Plan fun activities
Plan fun, enjoyable, hilarious outings with friends and/or family. This is to keep your mind active. Social interaction, fun and fun can improve your mood and energy.
7. Consider supplements
A deficiency of vitamin D, for example, can cause fatigue. A visit to the doctor can’t hurt at all and talk to your doctor about taking supplements such as vitamin D.
8. Less caffeine and alcohol
Well, actually a bit common knowledge. Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, especially later in the day and in the evening. They can affect your sleep pattern and lead to reduced sleep quality.
9. Make it cozy inside
Make it cozy inside with candles, blankets and warm colors. This can certainly contribute to a positive atmosphere and more energy!
10. Listen to your body
Perhaps one of the most important points: always listen to your body. It is not crazy at all to take a power nap in the afternoon. If you are tired, take that rest and don’t force yourself to continue. A short break can really do wonders.
If, despite these tips, you continue to suffer from a lack of energy, it is advisable to speak to your doctor to rule out possible underlying causes.
