The ‘booktok’ book recommendations:

Last call at the local

They don’t say opposites attract for nothing. This book is set in Ireland. It follows an American singer-songwriter (Raine) with ADHD and a charming Irishman with OCD (Jack). Raine is stranded in a small town in Ireland after her instruments are stolen. She meets Jack, who invites her to provide entertainment at his pub. They work together to bring his family’s pub back to life. It is a warm-hearted novel that is well worth reading.

Gone to see the river man

Are you not easily scared and do you like horror books? Then ‘Gone to see the river man’ might be something for you. This book is about a woman who is obsessed with a serial killer. She sends him letters and would do anything for him. He asks her to get a key from a cabin in the woods. She does this and takes her disabled sister with her. On the way to the hut, personal demons resurface. It’s a real nail-biter so if you like suspense, it’s definitely for you.

Everything I know about love

‘Everything I know about love’ is a hilarious memoir by writer Dolly Anderson. It’s about growing up and getting older, maintaining friendships, jobs, loss and love. It’s a relatable book about the highs and lows of modern dating, the importance of female friendships, and most importantly, self-love. If you’re not convinced by now, we don’t know what is.

Carrie Soto is back

If you watched and loved ‘Challengers’, this book is right up your alley. This book is a sports drama about tennis and romance. Tennis player Carrie makes a comeback and this stirs up a lot of emotions. It’s about life as a woman, as a professional athlete and balancing this with your love life. Taylor Jenkins Reid, the author of ‘Carrie Soto is back’, with another top book. She is known for her book ‘The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo’. This book went viral on TikTok last year. Maybe you’ve already read that one and already know how talented Taylor Jenkins Reid is.

The rule book

In ‘The rule book’ you follow the story of Nora, a woman whose career is starting to take off as a sports agent. She has her first client, but this turns out to be her ex. They haven’t seen each other in ten years. Even though Nora knows she broke up with her for good reasons, she knows she should have handled some things differently. The two former lovers have turned into enemies and try to navigate their new working relationship. A great book with a clear case of ‘right person wrong time’.
