A few months ago the documentary ‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV’ premiered. This showed, among other things, that singer and actress Ariana Grande played disturbing scenes in the series Victorious and Sam and Cat. Ariana responds to the documentary for the first time in a podcast.
Ariana Grande about Nickelodeon documentary
Ariana Grande is a guest on the podcast ‘Podcrushed’. Here she speaks out for the first time about the documentary in which the truth emerged about what happened behind the scenes at Nickelodeon. “It’s terrible to listen to the experiences that some of my colleagues have undergone,” she says in the podcast. Ariana believes that the environment on set should be made safer when children start acting. “I think psychologists should be present at all times,” she says.
Ariana also says that she believes that parents should always stay nearby on set. “If a child wants to act or make music that can make them famous, then therapy should be included in the contract. At least two or three times a week, mandatory,” she says.
Upset about own images
Not only her colleagues have experienced disturbing things on set. Ariana herself also sometimes had to portray pornographic things on camera. She now looks at the subject very differently since the allegations emerged. “Looking at some of the scenes I played as a teenager, it honestly upsets me in this new context. Our show was cool because of our different take on humor,” she says. “That humor actually went too far and it all happened so quickly. If the images were not allowed to appear on TV, they would appear on the website. Ariana is very angry about the events.
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV
In this documentary, famous child stars such as Drake Bell reveal stories about the terrible things that happened to them behind the scenes at Nickelodeon, such as sexual abuse. Acting coach Brian Peck and writer-producer Dan Schneider were accused of this. They were very powerful on the set and they abused this power considerably. Jennette McCurdy also previously spoke out about the toxic environment behind the scenes at Nickelodeon in her book “I’m glad my mom died”.
