Adele bids farewell to an old hit in Munich
Adele kicked off her first of a series of ten shows in Munich, Germany, on August 2. She performed there for an audience of 75,000 fans each night. During the first show, these fans were surprised with the news that the singer will never sing her song ‘Chasing Pavements’ live again after these shows in Germany. During her concert, she explained that she feels like she sounds like she’s 19 in the song, which she was when she released the song in 2008. It feels like she’s 19 again when she sings the song, and that’s something that irritates her. “The reason I don’t sing this song very often, and I shan’t sing it again after this Munich residency, is because the way I pronounced the words in this song when I was 19 years old, I sound like I’m 19 years old.” The singer is currently 36 and is therefore not nostalgic about the 2008 song. “But I’m going to do it for you because I love you, and again the Germans have always been very, very loving to me. But I’m only going to do it if you do it with me.” Adele last performed the song before the Munich shows in 2017.
Goodbye Chasing Pavements
‘Chasing Pavements’ was one of Adele’s earliest hits. The song was the debut single from her album 19 and was released in January 2008. The song reached number two on the UK charts and the video was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in 2008. During her show in Munich, Adele looked back on her song ‘Someone Like You’ with a lot of nostalgia. The singer became emotional while singing the song and told fans that the song changed her life. “I wish someone would’ve told me that when I was 21, that people are going to sing this song someday.”
From Las Vegas to Munich
Earlier this year, Adele concluded her residency in Las Vegas. In January of this year, she announced her series of shows in Munich. “I couldn’t think of a more wonderful way to spend my summer and end this beautiful phase of my life and career with shows closer to home during such an exciting summer,” she wrote in a statement. She ended it very appropriately with: “Guten tag babes.”
