Youth
Nouchka grew up in Schiedam. She now also gives training and lectures there about mindset, teamwork and performance under pressure. She started boxing at the age of 19.
Career
After doing taekwondo for a long time, she started boxing in 2007 at the age of 19. She has been Dutch champion since 2009 and her performance has improved since then. She made her breakthrough in 2010. She won against former champion Anna Laurrel, which meant she participated in the World Championships and reached the quarter-finals. At the 2011 European Championships in Rotterdam, she won a silver medal. In 2014 she became Dutch champion for the first time and that year she also won the bronze medal at the world championships. She won a gold medal at the 1st European Games in Baku in 2015. In 2016, she became the first female boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games. She finished there in the final against Claressa Shields, but Fontijn ended up with the silver medal. In 2020, Noucka decided to extend her career. She was supposed to participate in the Olympic Games in 2020, but these were postponed a year due to Covid. She is qualified in 2021 and after beating her Polish and Canadian opponents, she suffered a leak in the semi-finals. Unfortunately it stopped there for her, she took home her bronze medal to end her boxing career. She currently gives training at the location where she was born, Schiedam. She is now also participating in the new season of Expeditie Robinson.
