Should you use a different moisturizer in the morning than in the evening?

Is it better for your skin, or is that a myth?

A liniment here, a serum there: our bathroom cabinet is full of products to pamper our skin. We regularly see beauty routines from experts who swear by the fact that we should apply moisturizer twice a day. However, is that necessary? And if so, should you use a different moisturizer in the morning than in the evening?

Different moisturizer

With all the different beauty products that are now on the market, we sometimes can’t see the forest for the trees. There are not only products for the day, but also for the night. They all promise to be the best for your skin. Fortunately, experts have weighed in on this issue, and they agree that moisturizer is a must. Do you need that both in the morning and in the evening? The answer is yes and no. Depending on what you are looking for in nourishing creams, you may benefit from varying the products for different parts of the day. However, this is not a necessary step for everyone.

Day cream

With a day cream you prepare your skin for the day ahead. You do this with antioxidants such as vitamin C and niacinamide, which protect the skin against pollution and free radicals, brighten the skin and protect against sun damage. Speaking of the sun: an SPF in the morning is certainly a must. In combination with a moisturizer, your skin is well protected against external influences – and it is a good basis for your makeup.

Night cream

Evenings are a good time to add actives and try products with heavier textures, as your skin repairs itself while you sleep. Products with retinol are a good example of this and work for all ages and skin types. If you have dry skin, a thicker cream in the evening can help to nourish your skin well so that you have a dewy skin in the morning.

But can you also use the same products for both times of the day? That all depends on your personal preference. If you have fewer steps in your routine, you may want a cream that works double time. If you already use SPF and serums separately, one moisturizer is all your skin needs.
