Two weeks later: Gil Ofarim has not yet paid the fine

Doesn’t Gil Ofarim (41) want to end things quickly? Two weeks ago, the singer made a shocking confession in the trial surrounding his anti-Semitism allegations – he had just made the whole situation up. Both sides then agreed on a settlement: the musician had to pay a fine of 10,000 euros. The money will go to the Jewish Community of Leipzig and the sponsoring association of the House of the Wannsee Conference. But so far has Gil not even paid yet!

“He has not yet reported or proven that the requirement has been fulfilled,” explains a spokesman for the regional court to Focus Online. This violates Gil but not against the court’s requirements – he has six months to transfer the sum. Only when this deadline has passed can “the proceedings then be resumed and the criminal proceedings would have to be carried out again from the beginning”. If the 41-year-old still pays on time, the proceedings will be permanently stopped.

Gil had addressed the public in October 2021 with a video in which he accused a Leipzig hotel employee of anti-Semitism. He claimed that the manager recommended that he hide his Star of David necklace when he wanted to check in. Shortly afterwards, doubts arose about the singer’s statement. “The allegations are true. I would like to apologize to you. I’m sorry,” admitted Gil finally in the courtroom.
