Annabel was employed as an interior designer for the Duchy.
Laying off staff is no mean feat, but what if it’s family? Prince William has decided to remove Queen Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot from her position at the Duchy of Cornwall. Elliot had been employed as the estate’s designer for over 20 years.
Contract not extended
Kate and William have people for everything and you can’t think of anything that doesn’t bring in a new job. Annabel was employed as an interior designer for the Duchy of Cornwall but unfortunately her contract is not being renewed.
This week, the annual report of the royal family revealed that the royals will be implementing quite a few changes in the coming year. For example, King Charles will (temporarily) say goodbye to his Bentley because it will be made electric and solar panels will be installed on the roof of Windsor Castle.
Tasks completed
For Camilla’s 75-year-old sister, the changes mean she will have to step down from her current role. The report found that the designer’s services have not been used for 2023-2024.
Annabel was hired for the Duchy of Cornwall by King Charles when he was still the Duke of Cornwall. The designer was hired shortly after Charles married her sister. There is said to be no bad blood between William and Annabel and she was simply dismissed because her work was considered complete and the staff had learned what they needed from her. Annabel does not have to sit still now that her duties for the Duchy of Cornwall are over. She still has her own company, Annabel Elliot Limited, which is based in Dorset.
Youth
Of course, she lived with her sister, now the Queen, for many years. Of her childhood, she told Vanity Fair: “We had a magical childhood. Unlike many of our generation, we had an incredibly warm, easy relationship with our parents. We had no nannies,” Annabel said.
“All of our friends growing up were immediately drawn to my mother. She was straight forward and one of the warmest, kindest people.”
