“Everything I say about my family will result in a flood of insults,” the prince predicts.
After a tell-all book, a documentary, and endless interviews, you might think Prince Harry has said just about everything there is to say. Yet, tonight the prince is back on British television.
Phone hacks
Look, you can think whatever you want about the Duke of Sussex, but the fact that various British media have not handled the prince’s privacy very well has even been confirmed by the court.
At the end of last year, the court ruled that ‘widespread and regular’ use was made of phone hacking by the Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) to publish stories about the prince.
Tonight, ITV will be airing a documentary called Tabloids on Trial, which will focus on various legal cases concerning journalistic ethics and the way things are done. In addition to the Duke, celebrities such as Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church and Paul Gascoigne will also be speaking about the impact these hacks have had on their lives. Harry will also make some remarkable statements about his relationship with the Windsors…
Family feud
The Duke is asked whether his determination to take legal action against the rogue newspaper publishers played a role in the breakdown of his ties with the rest of the royal family.
“Yes, that is certainly a core part of it,” Harry states. “But you know, that is a difficult question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a flood of abuse from the press.”
“I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did this as a family, you know? I believe that, again, from a service standpoint, when you’re in a public role, these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good,” he added.
ITV News journalist Rebecca Barry then decides to dig a little deeper, asking: “What do you think of their decision not to fight like you did?”
“I think the way things have gone has shown people what the truth is. For me, my mission continues. But yes, it has, as you say, caused some of the rift.”
Whether the prince is really helping to restore this bond with the family by making all sorts of accusations on national TV? We doubt it.
