Dermatologist says: this really works against bags and dark circles

Finally some advice we can use.

Bags or dark circles under your eyes can be the result of a poor night’s sleep, but nine times out of ten there is another cause. If you know what that is, you can easily adjust your skin care accordingly. A dermatologist tells you how to do that.

Causes

‘Did not sleep well?’ – it’s a question we often get when we have bags under our eyes. However, these dark circles can also have completely different causes. A dermatologist discusses the two most important ones on TikTok: hyperpigmentation and thin skin under your eyes.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is caused by overproduction of melanin on certain parts of your skin. If this happens under your eyes, bags can form there. This is often a grayish color, but in some cases it can also be more brown or reddish.

Thin skin

Another cause of bags under the eyes is thin skin under the eyes. People with thin skin are more likely to suffer from dark, often bluish circles. This is because the shadow of the underlying blood vessels is easier to see when the skin is thinner.

Trick

You can easily find out which cause applies to you with a trick. This TikTok dermatologist explains:

If the discoloration is in your skin, you suffer from hyperpigmentation. In that case, the dermatologist recommends products with vitamin C and niacinamide. If your bags under your eyes are the result of thin skin, it is best to use products with retinol and caffeine. It is important to be careful when trying out new creams. Thin skin is often also sensitive skin. First wait and see how your skin reacts – this will prevent the dark circles under your eyes from getting worse later.
